75 month Sentence for Man Accused of Abusing Boys

BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) - A man accused of sexually abusing young boys over the past several decades has been sentenced in Crow Wing County to more than six years in prison.

Seventy-year-old Tom Erickson pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in a plea agreement with prosecutors. Crow Wing County District Judge David Ten Eyck sentenced Erickson to 75 months in prison Monday.

Two of the three victims for which Erickson entered his pleas were in court Monday. The Brainerd Dispatch (http://bit.ly/16At83E ) says Erickson declined when asked if he wanted to address his victims. Sexual Assault Services executive director Rose Kramer told the judge that Erickson also assaulted other boys, but the men could not file a complaint because the statute of limitations has expired.

Question: I don’t want to sound like a “wise guy”, but I really am just curious, so I need to ask you this. With all the enforcement projects going on, why are we still seeing so many fatal crashes being reported?  I thought the enforcement projects helped with that?  Thank you.

Capitol Report: Shaping Tomorrow's Workforce

Dr. Tom Stinson, who will soon leave his position of State Economist, recently cited Minnesota's workforce as a key factor in building a health economy. On this week's Capitol Report, we explore efforts underway to ensure that Minnesota's workers are educated and prepared for Minnesota's future.

On the program, Julie Bartkey talks with Dr. Stinson about his public service, his work ahead and his advice for future policymakers as they strive to establish a vigorous economy. Plus, Senate Higher Education and Workforce Development chair Terri Bonoff, DFL-Minnetonka, explains the challenges her committee faces with an aging population and the need to prepare tomorrow's workers with the right skills. Further, Sen. Roger Chamberlain, R-Lino Lakes, stresses the need to hold public higher education institutions accountable for educating Minnesota's students in a cost-effective manner.

Capitol Report is produced by Minnesota Senate Media Services, a non-partisan, taxpayer-funded organization.
